You Will Know the Truth

Jesus said we would know the truth and be set free. This post explains how continuing in Christ’s Word reveals the truth, breaks the power of sin, and leads to a victorious life of faithful obedience.

Jesus did not speak in riddles when He said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” John 8:32. He was not offering a slogan. He was stating a spiritual law.

The truth is not discovered by accident. It is known by staying in His Word.

Just before that statement, Jesus said, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine” John 8:31. Knowing the truth begins with continuing. Not visiting Scripture once in a while. Not quoting verses when it’s convenient. Continuing. Remaining. Abiding.

A person does not know Christ deeply by emotion or experience alone. Christ is known through His words. His teaching reveals who He is, what He demands, and what He promises. When a believer stays in His Word, truth becomes clear, steady, and grounded.

Jesus Himself is the truth. He later said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” John 14:6. Truth is not a philosophy. Truth is not personal opinion. Truth is a Person. To know the truth is to know Christ as He truly is, not as people imagine Him to be.

And that truth produces freedom.

Jesus explained what kind of freedom He meant when He said, “Everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin” John 8:34. Sin is bondage. Lies are bondage. Guilt is bondage. Fear is bondage. Christ does not free a person by ignoring sin. He frees them by breaking its power.

“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” John 8:36. This is real freedom. Freedom from being ruled by the flesh. Freedom from condemnation. Freedom to obey God instead of fighting Him.

This is where the victorious life comes in, but not the kind often advertised.

Victory is not a trouble free life. Victory is a surrendered life. Victory is walking in obedience, strengthened by Christ, guided by truth, and no longer owned by sin.

Paul understood this when he wrote, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. That strength did not come from self confidence. It came from Christ. Paul lived victoriously because he lived dependent.

Jesus said, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you” John 15:7. That is the key. His words abiding in us produce fruit, endurance, and faithfulness. Without His Word, a believer becomes weak, confused, and easily led astray.

A victorious Christian life is not about hype or noise. It is about truth shaping the heart. It is about Christ ruling the life.

You will know the truth by studying and continuing in His Word.
The truth is Christ Himself.
And the freedom He gives leads to a life of faithful service, obedience, and quiet victory that endures.

That is not religion.
That is discipleship.
