Reynolds Finished Runner-Up, Five Qualify for Finals on Day One of the MW Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. (May 15, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program picked up one second-place finish in the hammer throw while five runners qualified for finals on day one of the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, Thursday.
As a team, the Cowboys sit in fifth with 11 points while the Cowgirls have yet to score.
HEPTATHLON
To end day one of the heptathlon, freshman Avery Navest sat in sixth with a total of 3,028 points. In her first event, the 100-meter hurdles, she finished with a time of 15.47 for 781 points. In the high jump, she took 10th with a clearance of 5’ 0 1/2" (1.54 meters) for 666 points. In the shot put, she threw a distance of 39’ 11 1/2" (12.18 meters), good for third overall and 673 points. In the final event of the day, Navest ran the 200 meters in a time of 24.77 for third place, adding 908 points to her total.
Tomorrow, she will start the day with the long jump, followed by the javelin throw and will close the heptathlon running the 800 meters.
FIELD EVENTS
The women’s hammer throw opened the championship’s individual events, where senior Isabella Reimann finished in ninth after making the final with her first throw. With a toss of 168’ 5” (51.33 meters), her throw was better than six other competitors.
The men’s hammer throw saw Wyoming’s first team points of the meet. Senior Daniel Reynolds and freshman Charles LaFore both made the finals, entering in third and fifth, respectively. Reynolds, while only recording two successful throws, finished as the MW runner-up for a second-straight year with his throw of 219’ 9” (67.00 meters) for eight team points. LaFore finished in seventh for two team points with his best throw traveling a distance of 203’ 2” (61.94 meters).
Senior Sage Coventry took on his first meet of the year and helped the Cowboy team score. In the men’s javelin, he threw a distance of 170’ 8” (52.03 meters) for eighth place. With his Top-8 finish, Coventry added one team point.
TRACK EVENTS
The 800-meter Cowgirls opened the track on Thursday. Freshman Hanan Aldelemy had the top Wyoming finish at 2:10.94, just off her personal best, for 14th. Junior Libby Berryhill-Worshek took 21st overall and crossed the line at 2:14.18.
On the men’s side, senior Trevor Stephen had to fight his way into Saturday’s final. With a personal best time of 1:51.85, Stephen earned the automatic qualification by crossing the line second in his heat, beating the next best finisher by just half a second. Senior Tristan Knueppel finished in 19th with his finish of 1:57.00 to close his season.
In the women’s 200-meter dash, three freshman Cowgirls took on their first MW outdoor championships. Taliah Morris finished second in her heat with a time of 23.62, a personal best by 0.01 seconds. Her time was fast enough for sixth overall and moves her to the final on Saturday. With her improvement, she moved up to tie the No. 4 time in outdoor program history.
Megan Witkiewicz also ran a personal best of 24.75, good for 23rd overall, while Madeline Thorne ran to 25th with her time of 24.92.
For the men’s 200 meters, freshman Bridger Norton crossed the line with a wind-aided time of 21.77 for 17th overall. Junior Gavin Cougle had to pull up near the 100-meter mark and did not finish.
Two Cowgirls qualified for the 400-meter hurdles final. With the big Q, senior Gabby Drube ran a time of 1:00.46 for second in the heat and fifth overall. Sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina picked up the last finals spot with her time of 1:02.23 for ninth place. Freshman Lily McDowell crossed the line with a time of 1:02.62 for 12th overall while senior Jenae Ramirez took 13th with her time of 1:03.68.
Senior hurdler Jaheim Ferguson finished first in his heat of the 400-meter hurdles to qualify for Saturday’s final. Crossing the line at 52.80, he finished with the second-best time in the event. Junior Carson Kaminski took 10th overall with his finishing time of 54.48.
In the grueling 10,000-meter race, four Cowgirls and one Cowboy took on the challenge. For the women, senior Kylie Simshauser finished 10th with the top Wyoming time at 35:06.20. Coming in 11th right behind Simshauser was graduate Marina Trave Ferrer, who crossed the line at 35:13.14. Coming next for Wyoming was senior Nina Zraik with her 10k time of 36:02.22. The last Cowgirl, senior Leah Christians, crossed the line in 19th with a time of 37:00.86.
For the men, senior Gus McIntyre ran to a 16th-place finish with a time of 31:22.23.

Day two of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships will resume with the completion of the heptathlon at 11:20 a.m. MT, field events at 5 p.m., and the action on the track opening at 6:30 p.m., tomorrow.
