Weston County residents interested in serving on one of the county’s two school boards have until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, to file as candidates for the Nov. 3 general election.

The filing period for school board trustee candidates opened Aug. 5. Candidates must submit a school board trustee application to the Weston County Clerk’s Office at 1 W. Main St. in Newcastle. There is no filing fee.

Four seats on the Weston County School District No. 1 board of trustees are up for election. Those seats are currently held by Jason Jenkins, Dana Gordon, Joe Prell and Sean Crabtree.

Three seats on the Weston County School District No. 7 board of trustees are also up for election. Those seats are currently held by Ty Miller, Justin Mills and Mark Mitchell.

According to the Wyoming secretary of state’s candidate application, school board candidates must be qualified electors who reside within the school district.

The application asks candidates to provide their date of birth, length of Wyoming residency, voter registration and residential information. Candidates must also list the name they want printed on the ballot. Professional titles, degrees, fictitious names and pseudonyms are not permitted on the ballot.

Candidate applications are available through the Wyoming secretary of state’s website. Anyone with questions about eligibility or the filing process may contact the Weston County Clerk’s Office at 307-746-4744. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
