Organizers seek auction items — All-School Reunion auctions fund scholarships and future events
As Newcastle gears up for the 2025 NHS All-School Reunion, organizers are reminding the community that the live and silent auctions — set to take place during the July 3–5 celebration — do more than entertain: they raise vital funds that support both future reunions and scholarships for graduating Dogies.
The popular auction events have become a tradition during the reunion, and are made possible by generous donations from alumni, local businesses, and community members. This year is no different, and organizers are still welcoming contributions.
“We are asking for auction item donations again and hope you are willing to donate on behalf of your class or business,” said reunion organizer Jennifer Smith, who noted that the donations helped pay for this year’s reunion, and will pave the way for the next one in 2030.
Auction items can be dropped off at the Weston County Public Library on or before Thursday, July 3, by 5 p.m. (Note: the library will be closed on Friday, July 4). Items may also be brought to the reunion headquarters immediately after the parade on July 4. Donors are asked to clearly label baskets with their class year or business name, and include a list of contents.
“It really helps if the basket is labeled with the items it contains and the name of the class or individual donating,” said reunion organizer Tracy Olson, who indicated that proper labeling saves a lot of time behind the scenes. She indicated that donating early also helps build anticipation because people know what they’re bidding on.
Photos or descriptions of donated items can be sent directly to Smith or Olson, and will be used in social media posts to generate interest ahead of the event. Auctioneer David Whitley will once again lead the live auction and will use the submitted photos and descriptions to determine which items will be featured in the live event and which will be offered in the silent auction.
Some of the early donations already promised include a week-long stay at a Black Hills vacation cabin, handmade quilts, professional photo shoots and many more unique keepsakes and experiences.
Funds raised through the auctions have long supported the All-School Reunion’s many moving parts — including entertainment, logistics, and facilities like porta-potties — but they also help provide financial assistance to graduating NHS seniors.
This year’s recipients were Thatcher Troftgruben and Hailey Beastrom, who each received $500 scholarships thanks to proceeds from previous reunion fundraisers. Recent graduates from the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024 also benefited from the All-School Reunion fund, and organizers say the support will continue for years to come with community help.
“We’re incredibly proud that this tradition not only brings old friends together, but also gives back to the next generation of Dogies,” Smith said.
Reunion organizers are also selling commemorative drink ware created by local alumnus Dylon Tidyman, with $1 from every purchase going back to the scholarship and reunion fund. Options include engraved 16-ounce drinking glasses for $5–$7.50, and black or orange can coolers for $20. Orders are due by June 15.
