Jewel Cave Temporarily Closes Surface Trails
Custer, SD – Due to a waterline construction project at Jewel Cave National Monument, the surface trails are temporarily closed through late June. The 3.5-mile Canyons Trail is closed from the Visitor Center to the Jewel Cave Historic Area; the Canyons Trail spur from the Roof Trail to the historic cabin is also closed.
A portion of the one-quarter-mile Roof Trail is also closed. Visitors can still access the first part of the Roof Trail near the visitor center and hike approximately 100 yards to an observation deck. However, the remaining portion of the trail is closed and signed accordingly.
To learn more about the surface and subsurface features, follow the Monument on Facebook at www.facebook.com/JewelCaveNPS or Instagram at www.instagram.com/JewelCaveNPS. To speak with a park ranger, contact the visitor center directly at (605) 673-8300 or email at jeca_interpretation@nps.gov.
