Knife-wielding resident arrested near Wheatland High

WHEATLAND (WNE) — Platte County Sheriff’s Office arrested a resident who reportedly was wielding a knife and gun and threatened to slash tires near Wheatland High School on Monday, May 12.
At 11:51 a.m., officers from the Wheatland Police Department and Platte County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer responded to a call of a threatening male.
“While on scene, an additional report came in stating the same individual had retrieved a firearm and was seen waving it around,” PCSO Sheriff David Russell said in a press release.
Egbert Jones was arrested and booked into the Platte County Detention Center after he was reportedly found intoxicated and in an agitated state.
Officers reported there was no ongoing threat to the public or school.
Due to the incident, local law enforcement has increased its presence in the area as strictly a precautionary measure.
The day prior, on May 11, PSCO arrested an individual who was intoxicated at the Days Inn and being belligerent toward the front lobby staff.
According to a press statement from Russell, sheriff’s officers responded to the Days Inn in Wheatland following reports of a very intoxicated person in the lobby being belligerent toward staff.
“Hotel personnel, concerned for their safety, requested the individual be removed from the property,” Russell explained. “When deputies attempted to speak with the man in his room, he became agitated and barricaded himself inside.”
Due to public safety concerns, deputies asked hotel staff to make sure the surrounding rooms were unoccupied and secured before engaging in a lengthy conversation with the individual. Jeremiah Enright was arrested without incident for breach of peace, interference and possession of a controlled substance.
