Cowgirls Rout CSU to Win Border Dual

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (April 11, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program won the Border Dual on the women’s side and posted 21 personal bests and three Top-10 program times at the Jack Christiansen Track, Saturday.

COWGIRLS

The Cowgirls finished with 70 points, 20 more than CSU, to win the women’s side of the Border Dual.

The women's action began in the hammer throw. While no team points were scored, junior Kais Kimuli finished with a personal-best throw of 169’ 6 1/4” (51.37 meters).

The first field points for the Cowgirls came from senior Allyson Fertig. She threw a distance of 47’ 5 1/2" (14.55 meters) in the shot put for third.

Freshman Koi Adderley grabbed a team point with her third-place finish in the high jump of 5’ 4 3/4" (1.65 meters).

In the women’s long jump, freshman Taliah Morris took first with a jump of 19’ 10 3/4" (6.07 meters) while senior Joan Easter followed right behind her with a second-place leap of 18’ 9 3/4” (5.74 meters).

Junior Elayna Chafee won the triple jump with her own jump of 39’ 3 1/4” (11.97 meters), good for five team points.

The 400 meters was the first event on the track, and the Cowgirls added six points. Freshman Eva Dellorco finished first with a time of 56.11. Sophomore Isabelle Harvey, while finishing fourth with a time of 57.61, was still the third finisher between Wyoming and CSU, earning one team point.

Freshman Carly Norman took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.81. Freshman Avery Navest also ran a personal-best time, crossing the line in fourth at 14.98.

Two Cowgirls earned points in the 100 meters. Chafee took second with a personal-best time of 12.13 while freshman Megan Witkiewicz ran to third at 12.24.

In the 800 meters, Wyoming swept the dual points, going 1-2-3. In first, junior Libby Berryhill-Worshek crossed the line at 2:11.88, freshman Muriel Jones took second with a time of 2:17.72 and freshman Kayla Coppola ran to third in 2:20.96, after altitude conversions. Junior Brooke Holzworth finished in fourth with a personal-best time of 2:21.35.

The Cowgirls also swept the 400-meter hurdles with one personal best. Senior Gabby Drube came in first with a time of 58.86, sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina ran to second with her finish of 1:01.17 and freshman Lily McDowell took third with a personal-best time of 1:02.89.

In the women’s 200-meter dash, all five Cowgirls posted personal-best times. Freshman Taliah Morris finished first with a program No. 5 time of 23.63 for first. In second place, Navest ran a time of 24.32 while Thorne ran to third with a finish of 24.43. The two other personal bests came from sophomore Charlotte Ward and freshman Rylie Alberts with their times of 26.25 and 26.36, respectively.

In the longest event of the day, senior Kylie Simshauser added five team points with her time of 4:28.38 in the 1,500 meters. In second, freshman Hanan Aldelemy posted a personal-best time of 4:31.93, after conversions.

The last event for the women, and the one that sealed their victory, was the 4x400-meter relay. The Cowgirl squad of McDowell, Drube, Mendoza-Molina and Thorne crossed the line at 3:42.74 for first place.

COWBOYS

On the men’s side, Wyoming finished in second as a team with 57 points to CSU’s 65.

In the hammer throw, senior Daniel Reynolds took first with his throw of 236’ 2 1/4" (71.99 meters) while freshman Charles LaFore finished in second with a toss of 209’ 7 1/4" (63.89 meters).

Wyoming picked up another first place in the throws with junior Cam Burkett’s season best throw of 60’ 11 3/4" (18.59 meters), the best throw in the Mountain West this season. LaFore also threw in the shot put and picked up a third-place finish at 56’ 5 3/4" (17.22m).

Sophomore Christian Edwards added two first places for the Cowboys in the long and triple jump. In the long jump, he leaped a distance of 23’ 1 3/4" (7.06 meters) for a personal best and jumped to 40’ 5” (12.32 meters) in the triple jump.

In the 400 meters, freshman Logan Brown finished in third with a personal-best time of 48.28.

Junior Carter McComb ran to second in the 100-meter dash with his time of 10.49.

Wyoming won all the team points in the men’s 800 meters. Senior Trevor Stephen crossed the line first with a personal-best time of 1:52.23, after conversions.  Juniors Mac Zastrow and Oscar Goll took the remaining four points in fourth and seventh place as the top finishers of the dual teams. Zastrow ran a time of 1:54.03 while Goll finished at 2:02.03, with altitude conversions.

Senior Jaheim Ferguson won the 400-meter hurdles and took home five points with his finish of 52.29.

Both Wyoming sprinters ran personal bests in the men’s 200 meters. In third, freshman Bridger Norton ran a time of 21.46 for the No. 10 time in outdoor program history. Freshman Bradley Ekstrom finished in third but still posted a personal best of 21.62.

The Cowboys finished with six team points and two personal bests in the 1,500 meters. Senior Albert Steiner ran to first with a time of 3:49.76 while freshman Austin Akers took third with a personal-best time of 3:53.68. Sophomore Nolan Hoffman crossed the line fifth with his own personal best of 4:04.65, all after altitude conversions.

To close the meet, the men’s 4x400-meter relay of Ekstrom, junior Darius Wiggins, sophomore Cody Hape and Brown got the baton around in a program No. 9 time of 3:13.20 for first place.

UP NEXT

Wyoming will be back in Fort Collins, Colo., next Saturday for the Doug Max Invitational. The meet will mark the last before the Mountain West Outdoor Championships.
