Wyoming faces UNM and Nevada Friday and Sunday
LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 12, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team opens Mountain West play this week with a pair of home matches. The Cowgirls welcome New Mexico to town for a 3 p.m., contest Friday before hosting Nevada at 11 a.m., Sunday.
Wyoming (3-9) is coming off a 5-2 win in its non-conference finale over West Alabama in McComb, Mississippi. The Cowgirls earned the Doubles Point in the match and came away with four singles victories. Dilnaz Mashabayeva and Elena Trencheva both earned wins over the Tigers. The Cowgirl newcomers now lead the way with five and four singles wins, respectively in 2025. In doubles, the tandem of Violetta Borodina and Mashabayeva improved to 9-3 overall this season and 2-0 in dual contests.
The Cowgirls have been sensational in conference play under Head Coach Dean Clower and have been even better at home. UW is 60-24 under Clower in MW play and is 66-11 in home matches with Clower at the helm.
Last season, Wyoming lost on the road to both New Mexico and Nevada. The Cowgirls lost a pair of hard-fought matchups in 2024, losing both contests 4-3.
