DOUGLAS (WNE) — A new app recently released in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store was designed to inform the citizens of Douglas about what’s going on in the community and how to deal with city hall.

The app, called Discover Douglas, offers an easier way to report non-emergency issues – like potholes – or search for resources like tourism, local healthcare facilities, crisis intervention services and more, according to the city, which launched the app’s debut with a scavenger hunt of sorts last month.

“The app has several ‘buttons,’ each with a wealth of information and links to external websites to obtain the information you seek. The first ‘button’ gives the option of opening the City of Douglas webpage or opening the city council contact page on our website,” said Douglas Public Relations Officer Devon Litzsinger.

Buttons lead to categories like recreation, activities & tourism, education, business & community, crisis intervention & assistance, healthcare, moving to Douglas, and a link directly to the Converse County government website.

The education tab leads to information on Converse County School District #1 and Eastern Wyoming College; the business tab offers information and links to The Enterprise, Main Street Douglas, Converse County Aging Services and all the banks within Douglas; and the crisis intervention & assistance button provides information and resources for people who need help in different situations.

A button labelled “Moving to Douglas” offers information on Realtors and rental agencies and contact information for utilities and internet providers.

The app itself and branding of it cost the city about $10,000; it was released on April 11.

While infrastructure updates will not be available in the app, the city hopes to include them in its website, currently undergoing an update. Citizens are not able to access their bills or pay bills on the app but may access that through the city website, which is linked to the mobile app.
