COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 29, 2025) – Junior thrower Cam Burkett was named the Mountain West Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

The award marks Burkett’s second MW honor in his career and the first in the outdoor season. The Casper, Wyo., native last won an athlete of the week award on Dec. 13, 2022, when he was named the Mountain West men’s freshman of the week.

Last weekend, Burkett threw a season-best shot put of 61’ 0” (18.59 meters) at the Border Dual against Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. His first-place throw leads the Mountain West and marks as the No. 41 throw in the country this season.

Burkett’s 61’ 0” throw is just shy of his personal best of 62’ 0 1/4” (18.90 meters) and his only 3/4" off his outdoor shot put personal best.

Wyoming will compete in its last regular-season meet this Saturday at the Doug Max Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
