Yellowstone's May visitation sets record

JACKSON (WNE) — Yellowstone National Park hosted 566,363 recreation visits last month, which was an 8% increase from a year earlier, and a 20% increase from May 2021.

It was also a 20% increase over May in Yellowstone’s record-breaking year, 2021. That year the park saw more than 4.8 million recreation visits.

So far, 2025 is on pace to potentially hit a record high. Through May, Yellowstone hosted 762,672 recreation visits, up from 719,127 last year and 644,979 in 2023.

In 2022, the park hosted 733,471 recreation visits during the first five months of the year and then was forced to close from June 13 through 21 due to historic flooding.

In 2021, the record year, recreation visits through May totaled 649,153.
