PHOENIX – Cowgirl golf is in fourth place at the Grand Canyon University Invitational after playing the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament on Tuesday.
Wyoming shot a 13-over par 301 in both the morning and afternoon rounds for a 36-hole score of 602 (+26) on the par-72, 6,510-yard GCU Golf Course.
The host Lopes (-5) comfortably lead the tournament by 21 shots over second-place Idaho (+16). The Cowgirls are six shots behind Northern Illinois (+20) for third entering Wednesday's final round.
Freshman Kiley Reisner fired a 71 in the second round and is sixth individually at +2 to lead UW. Junior Elle Higgins (+6) and senior Meghan Vogt (+8) are 11th and 15th, respectively.
"Today was a marathon mentally and physically. As a team, we just couldn't quite get consistent or confident on the greens throughout the day," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "Our ball striking was solid and complemented with some gritty scoring moments by Kiley, Elle and Meghan. I believe we can have an improved round (Wednesday) with just a few adjustments."
