WYDOT: Beware of fraudulent texts
JACKSON (WNE) — Residents should be wary of texts from the “Wyoming DMV” demanding money for unpaid traffic fines. They’re likely a scam, the Wyoming Department of Transportation said in a press release Wednesday.
The texts may warn Wyomingites that failure to pay the fines could result in license and registration suspensions, more fines and legal action. Texts may include a “suspicious link,” highway officials said in the release.
The transportation department does not send text messages like those used in the scam and does not seek personal information through text messages, the department’s release said. The agency is also not called the “Wyoming DMV” and does not use foreign phone numbers to do its work.
“If you receive a text message like this one, avoid opening the link and giving personal information,” officials said in the release.
People who receive the texts can report them as scam to the Federal Trade Commission using this link: TinyURL.com/Report-Scam-WYDOT.
