GILLETTE (WNE) — A 20-year-old woman was arrested and taken to the Campbell County Jail for attempted second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing a 54-year-old man Friday morning.

Deputies learned that a group — the suspect, the victim, a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man — had been traveling from North Dakota to Las Vegas in a blue 2018 Toyota Highlander. They stopped in Gillette for breakfast and smoked meth and fentanyl in the car, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said.

While traveling down Highway 387 toward Johnson County, the suspect was quiet before becoming combative, accusing the group of not being who they said they were. The woman drew a knife and stabbed the driver twice in the neck before she was restrained.

The other woman began driving toward Casper after 911 was called, and an air ambulance transported the victim to Casper for surgery, with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office taking the suspect into custody.

Deputies in Campbell County learned that the stabbing allegedly took place in Campbell County, and the woman was taken to Gillette.

The woman is being charged with attempted second-degree murder and felony assault.

One of the car’s occupants disposed of the fentanyl and methamphetamine before the group was met by Wyoming Highway Patrol, but a search of the vehicle found small amounts of oxycontin.
