LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2026) – Wyoming Cowgirl Emma Winter has received the AVCA-Marine Corps Battles Won Award, presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and The Marine Corps. The award is designed to celebrate coaches and student-athletes that have overcome a significant physical or mental challenge over the past year.
The 2026 AVCA-The Marines Battles Won Award, which is in its fourth year, recognizes those who are overcoming obstacles both on and off the court. Winter is one of 15 individuals – five coaches and 10 players – in the volleyball community who have faced hardships and come back strong. Winter, whose mother Jennifer passed away in January, has come back this season strong with the Cowgirls. Winter is second on the team with 161 kills and 2.15 kills per set. The senior has 43 blocks on the season and is averaging better than a dig per set as well while hitting .226.
Winter and the rest of her Cowgirl teammates begin a two-match set at Nevada Thursday evening.
