Window tint traffic stop leads to arrests

Casper (WNE) — Two Casper residents were arrested last week accused of trafficking more than 1,000 fentanyl pills and a pound of meth to Casper with intent to distribute, according to police.

Steven Thomas, 54, and Jill Sellars, 52, each face charges of possession with intent to deliver meth and fentanyl and felony possession counts in relation to each of those drugs.

If convicted, they each face as much as 54 years in prison and $80,000 in fines.

Multiple days after the pair was charged, the Casper Police Department issued a news release detailing some of the events that led to the duo’s arrest.

According to the news release, shortly before 8 p.m. on Feb. 1,

officers pulled Sellars over for a suspected window tint violation. After Sellars was stopped, officers found she had an active warrant for her arrest, apprehended her and searched the vehicle.

An affidavit filed with the charges indicated that a search of Sellars’s person yielded “two baggies containing suspected methamphetamine and one containing suspected fentanyl pills.” Sellars told officers she was traveling back to a motel where she was staying with Thomas. After getting a search warrant, officers turned over the motel room and found 92.5 grams of fentanyl and 330 grams — about 0.73 pounds — of meth according to the filing.

In the news release, police said they seized “over 1,000 fentanyl pills and a pound of methamphetamine.”

After the search, Thomas was arrested, according to the affidavit.
