Wicks Adds Canin Jefferson to 2026-27 Roster

He comes to UW from North Alabama

LARAMIE, Wyo.  (August 4, 2026) – University of Wyoming head men's basketball coach Sundance Wicks

announced on Tuesday the addition of guard Canin Jefferson to the 2026-27 roster. He comes to UW after spending three seasons at North Alabama.

"In a way that only the universe could script we got an amazing late addition to our roster in Canin Jefferson.   We had a player leave the program which opened up a spot for us to go hunt for an impact player.  Our staff was able to target a talented, but more importantly, character driven young man in CJ, who can provide us with depth, explosiveness, and firepower at the guard position.  Canin was part of a UNA team that went to the ASUN conference championship game two years ago and had a chance to run the lead guard spot this last year for Coach Pujols team.  We love young men who come from a winning pedigree and check all the boxes of character, accountability, and competitiveness.  Canin is extremely fast in the open floor and can break a game open with his speed and paint decision making.  He absolutely fits our guard archetype and will be a great addition to our Cowboy Tough Culture.  Poke fans, lets welcome Canin Jefferson to the High Plains of the Wild West!"

Last season, Jefferson played in 22 games with 18 starts. He was second on the team averaging 12.4 points per game along with 2.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. He also added over a steal per game. He scored in double-figures 14 times on the season and had 24 points against Eastern Kentucky.

He averaged 5.5 points per game as a junior along with 1.1 assists and 1.2 rebounds per game. He has played in 87 career games and has scored 552 career points with 67 career three pointers.

He graduated from Isidore Newman High School and helped lead his team to four state playoff appearances and two championships. He earned All-State honors and was also named All-State Most Valuable Player.
