WHP troopers use snow shovels to help fight grass fire
LARAMIE (WNE) β Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers helped battle a grass fire Thursday afternoon along U.S. Highway 287 south of Laramie, using snow shovels to slow the flames until fire crews arrived.
The fire was reported at about 2:46 p.m. in Albany County, according to a statement from the Wyoming Highway Patrol on Facebook. Troopers were the first to arrive and found the fire burning along nearly 10 miles of highway. They began working to suppress the flames with tools on hand before local fire authorities responded.
βWyoming Highway Patrol troopers may not be full-time firefighters, but thatβs never stopped us before!β the WHP said in the Facebook post.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The patrol noted vehicle- related sparks, such as those from faulty brakes or wheel bearings, is a possible cause of roadside grass fires. \Tossing burning materials, including cigarette butts, can also start wildfires. The patrol added that discarding burning materials from a vehicle is a citable offense.
