VA informs veterans of services still available during shutdown

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Due to the government shutdown that started Oct. 1, the Veterans Benefits Administration Regional Office at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center and the office at the Northern Colorado VA Clinic have been closed until further notice.
Local VBA Regional Office personnel are currently not available to assist veterans in person or virtually.
In an email sent to veterans, the Cheyenne VA Health Care System issued an apology for the inconvenience but stated that the following veterans’ benefits are still available.
- Health care services are still available at VA medical centers, outpatient clinics and vet centers.
- VA benefits will continue to be processed and delivered, including compensation, pension, education and housing benefits.
- Burials will continue at VA national cemeteries. Applications for headstones, markers and burial benefits processing will continue.
- The Board of Veterans’ Appeals will continue decisions on veterans’ cases.
- Call centers: VA’s primary call center (1-800-MyVA411) and the Veterans Crisis Line (dial 988, press 1) remain open 24/7.
- The VA Benefit Hotline (1-800-8271000) will be available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. MT. The National Cemetery Scheduling Office (1-800-5351117) (TTY:711) will be available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. MT, and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. MT, to schedule burials.
- Suicide prevention programs, homelessness services and caregiver support will continue.
