Torrington man identified in Scottsbluff officer-involved shooting
TORRINGTON (WNE) — The Nebraska State Patrol identified a 44-year-old Torrington man as the subject of an officer-involved shooting Saturday morning.
Matthew Geiger barricaded himself inside a residence in the 1700 block of Avenue I after state troopers and Scottsbluff police responded to a disturbance call around 9:15 a.m., according to investigators.
Geiger fired multiple shots from inside the home during the standoff, authorities said. A state patrol trooper returned fire, striking Geiger.
He was transported to Regional West Medical Center, treated and released into law enforcement custody. Geiger faces charges of attempted assault on an officer using a deadly weapon, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and terroristic threats. He was booked into the Scotts Bluff County Jail.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
The trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave, standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating with assistance from the Scottsbluff Police Department.
