Third man to be extradited for Thayne ATM burglary

AFTON (WNE) — A third man allegedly involved in an ATM burglary that took place in Thayne on February 2, 2025 has been arrested and is awaiting extradition back to Wyoming.
According to Captain Brian Andrews with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Myles Lamar Smith was arrested in Dawson County, Montana by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.
“He is currently in Montana on multiple felony charges and once he gets done up there he will be extradited for the charges here in Lincoln County.”
According to Dawson County records, Smith has been charged with eluding an officer and criminal endangerment. He is currently being held on a $76,035 bond.
Smith joins Billy Chavis of Fresno, Texas, and Demarcus Thomas of Houston, Texas, as having been charged in the burglary where they allegedly used tow hooks and a chain connected to a Ford F-250 pickup to cause extensive damage to an ATM machine.
The men made off with cash cassettes and fled to an awaiting vehicle, abandoning the pickup. It was determined that the abandoned vehicle was stolen from a residence in Afton.
A second Ford F-250 was also stolen from a Thayne residence that same morning. It was later found a short distance from the bank. These incidents took place on February 2, 2025.
Lincoln County Sheriff Shane Johnson noted in an April interview with SVI that the investigation is ongoing and there is reason to believe there may be connections to a similar incident which took place on November 5, 2024 in Alpine in which a Bank of Star Valley ATM was damaged and burglarized in a similar fashion.
