LYMAN (WNE) — A Sweetwater County man is dead after he lost control of his vehicle near Mountain View and rolled off the road.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, on Wednesday, July 9, 40-year-old Scott Covington was driving eastbound on Highway 410 at milepost 10.2 when he lost control of the Toyota FJ Cruiser he was driving.

According to a WHP report, the vehicle left the roadway on the right side, striking a sign warning of a curve in the road and rolling three times.

The report said Covington attempted to turn his vehicle back to the left, but it “tripped” and rolled off the road.

WHP Public Information Officer Arron Healy said Covington, who was thrown from the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt. With dry and clear conditions, investigators cited speed and driver fatigue as possible contributors to the incident.

This is the sixth death on Wyoming highways in July and the 58th in 2025.

“I cannot stress [enough] the importance of seatbelts,” Healy said, adding that he sees too many reports come across his desk in which vehicle occupants could have been saved by wearing a seatbelt.

“Always buckle up,” he said. “It’s your first defense against anything that might happen on the road.”
