Suspect in Cheyenne shooting in police custody

CHEYENNE (WNE) —  Suspect Adrian Maggos is in custody and has been charged with attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shooting a man early Thursday morning, causing life-threatening injuries.

The 27-year-old initially fled the scene, but later turned himself in to law enforcement. 

At approximately 4:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of East Third Avenue. They arrived to find an injured 31-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to Cheyenne Police Department Public Information Officer Alex Farkas.

CPD notified the public of the incident via Facebook at 5:35 a.m., encouraging civilians to avoid the area. There was a large police presence in the area until 9:26 a.m., when the scene was officially cleared and East Third Avenue was reopened.

According to CPD, initial evidence indicates that a verbal dispute occurred outside of a residence, on the sidewalk. The argument escalated, at which point Maggos is believed to have shot the victim. Maggos then fled the area on foot.

Officers established a perimeter and began an extensive search, including alerting the public and asking anyone with information on Maggos to contact police.

By early afternoon, detectives were informed that Maggos planned to turn himself in and had returned to the scene.

Members of the Crime Prevention Team and a U.S. Marshals Service Task Force Officer located Maggos at the residence in the 100 block of Third Avenue and took him into custody without incident.

This case remains under investigation.
