PHOENIX, Arizona (10/28/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team couldn’t quite close the deal for a result Wednesday at GCU Stadium. The Cowgirls fell to Grand Canyon, 2-1, dropping to 11-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 (13 points) in Mountain West Conference play.

The win improves the Lopes to 8-5-4 on the season and 4-3-1 (13 points) in league. The top of the table, with two matches left in the season, now looks like Colorado College (19 points), Air Force (18 points), Hawai’i (18 points) and New Mexico (16 points). The top four teams advance to the conference tournament.

The Pokes leveled the match Wednesday with the Arizona native providing the goal. Raegan Richardson netted a score of a penalty kick during the 72nd minute, tying the contest, 1-1. It was her second goal of the season.

The game remained even until the 87th minute when Amanda Adams tallied the final goal. It was assisted on McKayla Gwynn and Ellie Johannes.

Johannes was also the one that put Grand Canyon ahead initially. She scored in the 58th minute off a pass from Mai-Helen Nguyen Todnem to make it 1-0.

Wyoming dominated in the shots department, 29-9. It was tied for the fourth-most shots in a single game in program history.

Maddie Burr led the way with six shots. Isabel Vasco, Alyssa Glover and Erin Dahl all had four apiece.

That peppering kept Grand Canyon goalkeeper, Emma Knack, busy. She turned away a season-high 11 shots, while her counterpart, Wyoming keeper Haley Bartel, logged one save.

The Cowgirls return home for a critical game on Sunday. They host the second-place Falcons at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
