Sheridan High School’s  We the People team wins seventh-straight state title

SHERIDAN (WNE) — For the seventh-straight year, Sheridan High School’s We the People team has been named state champions.

Sheridan — with a total of 1,550 points — will join second-place Cheyenne Central High School as the two Wyoming teams who will compete at the annual We the People National Finals in Washington, D.C. April 17-19, 2026.

This year’s title marks the 13th title in the program’s history, and the 13th time in the last 14 years the program has qualified for the national finals.

Coming from Cody High School, first-year SHS We the People head coach Karen Wagner is no stranger to We the People, having coached Cody’s team for the last six years.

“(I) kind of looked up to the Sheridan program, so it was really cool to kind of be on the other side now and try to just push the bar even higher and higher of that reputation of excellence that this program has been known for quite some time now,” Wagner said.

SHS juniors Hannah Mowry and Gabe Perkins said they were both proud of the team’s performance this year.

“I thought we did really well. We really showed up when state came around and put in our work, had all the information, the practice and we just came out there and did our stuff,” Perkins said.

“We worked every day in class, but there were several times we came in before school, after school, outside of school with our team, just to work on the presentation piece, not just the research,” Mowry said.
