Seeing the good in the world

They say Wyoming is like one big town with long roads, an entire state that supports and rallies behind those in need. In retrospect, that makes each community in the really big town like a smaller family.
This is never more evident than when we face tragedy or celebrate victories.
Over the last few weeks we as a state, and a smaller community, have seen the best of people in the face of adversity. Some of our young people have been the ones leading the force in reminding us of the good in this world, giving us hope for the future.
Our Newcastle Lady Dogie volleyball team has offered sentiment to those struggling in two different incidents this last month.
During one of the team’s home games the group of young ladies presented Torrington High School head volleyball coach Chelsi Jackson with flowers and a donation, offering support to her during her 9-month old son’s battle with cancer. Schools around the state have also rallied together in support of Jackson by rocking “Cam the Man” shirts honoring her son and raising money to help the family.
The second of these amazing acts of kindness happened last Friday after the unfortunate death of 16-year-old Shayna Ritthaler. The girls not only wore the young lady’s favorite colors of blue but also presented her family with flowers, offering them support through this horrific journey.
The Ritthaler family also received an outpouring of support during the 4-H Awards Banquet where cards were collected and Shayna was honored through a slideshow.
It isn’t only the young that come together to support each other though.
Two weeks ago we witnessed more than 300 of our local community members come together and raise in excess of $30,000 to help the Macke family through Gidget’s battle with face and neck cancer.
These are the things we see posted over the internet all the time. We are bombarded with videos of people doing kind things for other people and it is nice to know that here in Wyoming we don’t have to turn to the internet to see the good in this world.
