Riverton Police Department investigates fatal shooting

RIVERTON (WNE) — The Riverton Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

According to an RPD statement, officers were called to an apartment in Riverton just after midnight on Tuesday on a report of a male with a gunshot wound to the head. There they found an adult male deceased inside the residence.

"There is no threat to the community at this time, and it appears to be an isolated incident," the department wrote, adding that the incident is under investigation.

RPD Chief Eric Hurtado said on Tuesday at press time that no one was in custody, but that investigators were conducting interviews. 

"We don't know if it was accidental or intentional," he said. "That's what we're investigating."
