Rider thrown from Snow King coaster sues resort, manufacturer

JACKSON (WNE) —- A man has filed a civil suit against Snow King Mountain Resort and the Cowboy Coaster’s manufacturer, alleging a seat belt failure left him seriously injured.
The Colorado-based firm Olson Personal Injury Lawyers filed the suit on July 10 in 9th District Court in Teton County on behalf of Juan Camacho.
According to court records, Camacho claims Snow King Mountain Resort and Montana-based manufacturer Wiegand Sports were negligent in maintaining the Cowboy Coaster.
Camacho boarded the ride on July 15, 2021, and claims that policy was not followed, according to court records. The suit alleges that Camacho buckled himself into the coaster, but no Snow King employee checked the belt before dispatching his cart.
As he sped down the track in the front seat of the coaster, the belt allegedly failed. The lawsuit states he was thrown from the cart and “suffered serious injuries, damages and losses” as a result.
The suit accuses the defendants of “product liability” and “willful disregard for public safety,” pointing to a history of prior seat belt malfunctions on the same ride, according to court records.
Camacho is seeking punitive damages, arguing that the resort acted with “willful and wanton misconduct” by ignoring the safety hazards.
His legal team has demanded a jury trial. The court has not yet set a hearing.
