Ranchester man dies in car crash
SHERIDAN (WNE) — A Ranchester man died in a fatal car crash in Natrona County Feb. 2, bringing the total number of roadway fatalities to 18 so far this year.
Leonard Chambers, 83, and passenger Karen Chambers, 82, were traveling southbound on Interstate 25 approximately 23 miles north of Casper in a 2004 Ford Ranger.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, around 10 a.m. Feb. 2, the Ranger drove off the road to the left into the median causing the driver to overcorrect to the right, striking a delineator post before re-entering the roadway in a driver’s side slide. The driver then overcorrected to the left, causing the truck to rotate before tripping and rolling two times. The Ranger came to rest in the west borrow ditch.
Leonard Chambers was transported by helicopter to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper but died of his injuries that evening. Karen Chambers was injured in the crash and taken by ambulance to WMC and hospitalized.
WHP troopers believe driver fatigue may have been one of the primary causes of the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
Fatalities on Wyoming roadways are higher at this time so far this year than the previous two years — 12 in 2025 and nine in 2024.
