Prepare
Election Day is approaching, and the choices we make at the ballot box will help shape Weston County and Wyoming for years to come.
Voting is one of our most important rights, but it also comes with responsibility. Every name marked on a ballot represents a decision about who will manage public money, oversee essential services, enforce our laws and speak for us in Cheyenne.
Those choices deserve more than a guess.
This week’s News Letter Journal includes our 2026 Primary Election Guide, which brings candidate information together in one place so voters can compare those seeking public office. We encourage readers to spend some time with it before heading to the polls.
The guide is only one resource. At newslj.com, voters can find continuing local election coverage, reporting on the issues facing our communities and stories from newspapers across Wyoming. Those stories can provide valuable context about the challenges candidates may confront if elected.
Voters can also hear directly from candidates through recordings of local forums and town halls on the News Letter Journal’s YouTube channel. Watching those conversations offers something campaign advertisements and social media posts often cannot: the opportunity to hear candidates explain their positions, respond to questions and demonstrate how they handle disagreement.
We know life is busy. Not everyone has time to attend every public forum, read every article or follow every campaign development. But taking even a little time to learn about the candidates is better than walking into the voting booth relying on name recognition, party labels, yard signs or someone else’s opinion.
Local elections matter. The people chosen at the ballot box will make decisions about taxes, roads, public safety, elections, health care and other services that affect our daily lives. In many cases, these officials will be our neighbors—people we see at the grocery store, community events and public meetings.
That closeness makes informed voting even more important, not less.
Democracy works best when voters arrive at the polls prepared. We encourage every eligible voter to use the resources available, study the candidates, ask questions and separate verified information from rumor and campaign rhetoric.
Your vote belongs to you. Make sure the decision behind it does, too.
Ensure These Stories Are Told
Despite the challenges facing independent local journalism, what sustains us — and fills us with deep gratitude — is the loyal support of readers who believe our communities deserve accurate, trusted, and locally rooted news.
It is no exaggeration to say that we are here because of you. Every story we report, every local issue we follow, every public meeting we cover, and every community voice we lift up is made possible by readers who understand the value of an independent newspaper.
Your support does more than fund articles. It helps protect the independence that allows us to report honestly, ask important questions, and keep our community informed without fear or favor.
If you are able, please consider supporting the News Letter Journal by donating to our Unabridged Fund today. Whether your gift helps cover reporting time, printing costs, video, photography, editing, or distribution, every contribution helps keep local journalism strong in Wyoming.
All gifts are deeply appreciated. Your support helps ensure that local stories continue to be told, local decisions continue to be watched, and local voices continue to be heard.
Thank you for standing with independent community journalism.
