Not All Gospels Are the Gospel

News Letter Journal - Staff Photo - Create Article
Many today are preaching a “different gospel”—one that leads away from the cross and away from truth. Paul didn’t call it a mistake. He called it accursed. This post exposes the false gospels still being preached and reminds believers to hold fast to the only message that saves.

“I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel, which is not just another account; but there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!
As we have said before, even now I say again: if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!”

Galatians 1:6–9

Paul didn’t mince words. He didn’t say, “Let them be corrected.” He said, “Let them be accursed.” That word means devoted to destruction. It’s not just strong language—it’s a warning from the Holy Spirit.

There’s only one gospel that saves.
One cross.
One Savior.
One way to eternal life.

Everything else—no matter how spiritual it sounds—is a counterfeit.

Paul saw it happening in his day. So do we. And it’s not just a few fringe teachers—it’s everywhere. Many churches today are preaching a different gospel. Not accidentally. Not carelessly. They’ve swapped out the truth for something more comfortable, more popular, or more profitable. And in doing so, they’ve led people away from the only message that saves.

Let’s name them.

Some preach a Jesus who never calls for repentance.
But Jesus said, “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).

Some preach salvation by works, rituals, or religion.
But Paul said, “Not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:9).

Some preach the gospel of wealth and self-help.
But Jesus said, “Deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).

Some say “all paths lead to God.”
But Jesus said, “I am the way... no one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Some never mention the cross at all.
But without the cross, there is no salvation. “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22).

Some even write their own Bibles—changing the truth to match the culture.
But Scripture says, “Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you, and you will be proved a liar” (Proverbs 30:6).

And some go so far as to preach, “Thou shalt not eat,” turning food into a path to holiness.
But Paul warned us plainly:
“The Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith... who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.”
(1 Timothy 4:1–3)

These aren’t just wrong ideas. They are false gospels, clever counterfeits dressed in spiritual language. And the people preaching them aren’t simply mistaken. Paul says they are accursed. That means cut off, under God’s judgment, marked for destruction. Why? Because they’re not just wrong about side issues. They are leading people away from the cross, away from grace, and away from the only way to be saved. That’s deadly. Eternity is at stake. Heaven or hell. Truth or deception. And the line between them is the real gospel of Jesus Christ.
