RIVERTON (WNE) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Riverton last Thursday, July 31, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred on Wyoming Highway 135 near milepost 29 at just before 3 p.m.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Mark Byrd, 67, of California, began to wobble on a right-hand curve in the roadway. Byrd lost control of the bike, driving off the road and into the ditch.

The bike traveled about 400 feet before tripping and hitting a fence, flipping at least twice and throwing Byrd off the bike.

Byrd was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the patrol.

“Speed, driver fatigue/asleep” were listed as possible contributing factors.
