Mildred R. (Gibbs) Butolph, 91, Weston County native, died Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Peaceful Pines Memory Care Facility in Rapid City, South Dakota. 

Mildred was born July 17, 1934, in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Joseph Gibbs and Ruth (Ramsay) Gibbs. 

Mildred grew up on the Cheyenne River south of Newcastle, Wyoming. She attended 7 Mile School and Upton High School in Upton, Wyoming, where she graduated from in 1952.

Mildred was involved in 4-H while growing
up. She was very talented with crafts, sewing, crocheting, knitting and gardening, just to name a few, which carried throughout her life. 

On May 26, 1952, Mildred married the love of her life, Glenn Butolph. The couple lived and worked on the Sedgwick Ranch and later moved to Deadwood, South Dakota, for the winter. Glenn and Mildred then made their home in Newcastle. To their marriage they had a daughter, Vera, and a son, Stanley. 

Mildred was a long-time member of Busy Beavers, Tops, and the Methodist Church. Mildred loved camping and fishing with her family. She was known for her legendary fruitcake and peanut brittle she made every Christmas. 

She is survived by her son, Stanley (Mary Ellen) Butolph of Rapid City; her daughter, Vera (Mike) Smith of Moorcroft, Wyoming; sister, Louise Bayne of Casper, Wyoming; brother, Edward Gibbs of Newcastle; seven grandchildren, Sam Smith, Tiffany Daniels, Shannon Williams, Josh Smith, Hayley Blank, Hanna Butolph, and Leah Butolph; 11 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

Preceding her in death are her hus-
band, Glenn; her parents; and her sister, Gracie Shultz. 

Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 1, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newcastle, with Rev. Calvin Hill officiating. Services will be live-streamed on Meridian Mortuary website.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
