Man suspected of shooting in custody after standoff
CHEYENNE (WNE) — After nearly four hours of police presence Friday afternoon at the Big Horn Motel, located at 2004 East Lincolnway, police took a suspected shooter into custody.
Officers with the Cheyenne Police Department initially responded to reports of a shooting at the motel at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday. They arrived on scene to find an adult male who had been shot. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to Cheyenne Police Department Public Information Officer Alex Farkas.
The suspected shooter, also an adult male, is believed to be acquainted with the victim.
Police and other responding agencies remained at the scene for several hours, trying to contact the suspect, who was believed to be in a motel room.
The SWAT team, crisis negotiators and the bomb squad were all at the motel, with several law enforcement officers waiting outside as the situation developed.
Police advised the public to stay clear of the scene, as officers continue to work to contact the suspect. Road closures between Logan Avenue and Campbell Avenue were put in place, as well.
At 6:11 p.m., Farkas confirmed that officers breached the suspect’s room and an unidentified adult male was taken into custody without incident.
