Man dies in head-on collision near Guernsey

WHEATLAND (WNE) — A 62-year-old Colorado man was killed last week in a head-on collision approximately three miles west of Guernsey on Highway 26.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol public information officer Aaron Brown, on Thursday, Nov. 20, a Ford F-150 with Wyoming plates was headed eastbound on Highway 26 when it merged into the westbound lane to pass an unknown white hatchback vehicle near the crest of a hill. 

A Harley Davidson Street Bob driven by Kerry Gunn of Colorado was headed westbound in the same lane; when the two met, each tried to avoid a crash with the other by maneuvering to the north side of the road. 

As a result, the motorcycle and F-150 collided head-on, and Gunn was thrown from his motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet.

The unknown white vehicle that was being passed did not break any laws and continued down the road, possibly unaware of the collision Brown stated. 

The driver of the Ford F-150 appeared to be uninjured.

To date, no charges have been filed; however, charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The fatality is the 108th on Wyoming roads and the fourth on roads in Platte County for 2025.
