ROCK SPRINGS (WNE) — Local residents are being warned of a jury duty scam involving fraudulent phone calls and letters.

According to a March 11 press release from the city of Green River, scammers are claiming victims have been selected for federal court duty and insisting a fee must be paid to be relieved of the obligation.

To make the deception more convincing, these criminals are using the actual names of local judges and court officials.

The public should know the following:

  • There is no legal mechanism to pay a fee to avoid jury duty.
  • Court officials will never ask for payment via phone, gift cards, or wire transfers.
  • Never provide personal information or financial data to an unsolicited caller.

Verify the Call: If you receive suspicious communication or need to clarify your jury status, do not use the contact information provided by the caller. Instead, contact your county clerk of court’s office directly.
