Joyce Sets MW Record, Casey and 200-yard Free Relay Post School Record Times on Day One of the Mizzou Invite

COLUMIBA, Mo. (Nov. 10, 2025) – Three Wyoming swimming records, one Mountain West record and one dive zone qualifying score were set on the first day of the Mizzou Invite, Thursday.

SWIMMING

“We had a phenomenal day of racing with three new team records,” said head coach Dave Denniston.

The record day started when junior Tara Joyce finished with a time of 1:44.97 in the 200-yard Freestyle prelims. She would enter the final with the top qualifying time and came out on top for the Cowgirls. Joyce’s time would also set the new Mountain West standard, breaking the 2016 record of 1:45.11.

Junior Simon Casey joined the Wyoming record book with a time of 47.05 in his extracted 100-yard Backstroke in the 400-yard Medley Relay. The Cowboys would take fourth in the event.

Casey added another school record with the help of freshman Jack Boysen, freshman Edward Rhoe and sophomore Luke O’Connor in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. The squad posted a time of 1:17.89 for second. The Cowboys improved their place in the finals after only entering with the fourth-best seed time.

The special opening day didn’t end there. “In addition to that, we collected best times from every member of the team that is here,” added Denniston. “It is unheard of to have that many PRs, but we collected them every time we hit the water.”

Highlights from the PR filled day were junior Sophie Nutter posted a time of 54.65 in the 100-yard Butterfly final, Boysen with a time of 47.85 in the 100-yard Butterfly final, freshman Jackson Kogler taking third in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:45.39, Casey in second with a time of 1:33.92 in the 200-yard Freestyle, junior Taylor Craft touching the wall at 1:01.28 in the 100-yard Breaststroke, junior Griffith Orloff finishing with a time of 54.00 in the 100-yard Breaststroke and freshman Isabelle Henderson improving in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:25.46.

“This has been a better than perfect start to the meet,” said Denniston. “Resting for tomorrow is going to be a challenge as we are all excited about how we have done so far!”

DIVING

Wyoming had a solid day on the boards with one Poke earning a zone qualifying score.

“Long day with some great diving,” said head diving coach Mark Murdock.

Cowgirls were on the 3-meter board with senior Alicia Gonzalez posting a score of 277.10 and senior Natalie Six finishing with a score of 212.15.

Sophomore Jonah Mann led the Cowboys with his first zone cut.

“Jonah did well and secured his first zone qualifying score in the 1-meter,” said Murdock.

Mann finished with a point total of 305.00 over his six dives. Three other Cowboys were on the boards with sophomore Kael Kropf with 297.65 points, Bruno Grau finishing with 263.10 points and freshman Connor Liddle posted a score of 252.40.

Murdock closed, saying, “The team is looking strong heading into the rest of the weekend.”
