Graduation rates improve in 2025 in Teton County and state

JACKSON (WNE) — Both the state of Wyoming and Teton County School District’s graduation rates increased in the last year.

But TCSD remains nearly 14% above the state’s average rate for the 2024-25 school year, according to the latest data released by the Wyoming Department of Education.

The JHHS graduation rate was 97.6%, while Teton County School District as a whole was 96.9%.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder also celebrated that the state’s average high school graduation rate increased 1.5%, landing at 83.1%. The state saw a slight dip after the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year’s graduation rate was the highest in at least the last decade.

“Wyoming is back to where we were before the pandemic, and while there is more work to do, it shows what is possible when we keep our priorities where they belong,” Degenfelder said in a press release Friday. “Thank you to the students, educators, and families who believed in Wyoming and never lowered expectations.

“This didn’t happen by accident; it happened because we respected local control, stayed focused on students, and honored parental rights. We are proud of this progress, and we aren’t slowing down.”

One of the most significant increases in the last year was at Cody High School, which increased its graduation rate by 7.1 percentage points, going from 85.1% to 92.2%. At the district level, Lincoln County School District No. 2 jumped from 85.7% to 90.8%.

In TCSD, there was also improvement between the 2023-24 school year and 2024-25. 

The district-wide graduation rate was previously 92.4%, meaning it increased 4.5% between the two years. The district has kept its graduation rate higher than 90% since it dipped to 87.8% in 2017-18, according to WDE data.
