Fort Laramie Historic Site to host free summer events in 2026

TORRINGTON (WNE) — Fort Laramie National Historic Site will offer a series of free events throughout the summer of 2026, giving the public an opportunity to explore the history of one of Wyoming’s most storied national park sites.

Officials announced eight events spanning Memorial Day weekend through early August, with day-of schedules to be released a few weeks before each event.

The summer kicks off with a Memorial Day Weekend of the 1870s on the evening of May 22 and all day May 23, followed by Bat Night at the Fort on May 30 at 8 p.m.

June brings Pioneer Arrival Day onJune 13, the 150th Anniversary of the Great Sioux War on June 20 and Astronomy Night on July 11 at 8:30 p.m.

July 4 will mark a 250th Independence Day Celebration, coinciding with the nation’s semiquincentennial. Later in the month, a Fur Trade Event is scheduled July 31 through Aug. 2, with the summer wrapping up with an 1866 Living History Weekend: The Circle of Fire and Lantern Tour on Aug. 7, 8 and 9.

The visitor center is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day.
