Deception in the Last Days

News Letter Journal - Staff Photo - Create Article
Jesus warned that deception would be the first and greatest sign of the last days. In a world of AI videos and digital illusions, truth can look false and lies can appear holy. Learn how Scripture warns believers to stay grounded in God’s Word and discern the truth through the Spirit.

Jesus gave many signs to watch for before His return, but the first warning He repeated was about deception. In Matthew 24:4, He said, “See to it that no one misleads you.” Again in Mark 13:5–6 and Luke 21:8, He warned that many would come in His name, claiming to represent Him, and would lead many astray. Before the earthquakes, wars, and famines—He pointed to spiritual confusion.

That warning rings louder today. The tools of deception have never been stronger. In a world where images can be faked and voices cloned, truth can be twisted to look holy. What once took rumor or false teaching can now be made to appear real on every screen.

End-time deception might not come as a blatant lie, but as something that looks right, feels holy, and seems verified by every screen. Those who walk by sight may fall for it. Those who walk by faith and know God’s Word will see through it.

The Bible tells us that a world leader will rise with power and authority, performing “great signs” to deceive the nations. Revelation 13:13–14 says, “He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which it was given him to perform.”

Paul also warned that this deception will come “with all power and false signs and wonders” (2 Thessalonians 2:9–10). It won’t be truth that wins hearts—it will be the appearance of truth. That’s what makes this age of artificial intelligence so dangerous. Technology now has the power to create false miracles, false messages, and even false saviors.

The Word of God tells us, “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.” (2 Thessalonians 2:9–10)

The mark of the beast will not seem evil to the world—it will look helpful, safe, and necessary. Just as the serpent made the fruit look good to Eve, Satan will make the mark look right. Through fear, through promises, and through deception, he will lead the world into rebellion against God.

Now more than ever, believers must hold tightly to the Word. We are told in 1 John 4:1, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” Truth doesn’t change, even when the world does.

The time is coming when seeing will no longer mean believing. The enemy’s goal is to make the false look true, to stir confusion, and to blur the lines between light and darkness. Jesus said in Matthew 24:24, “For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.” The warning isn’t meant to scare us—it’s meant to prepare us.

God’s people aren’t called to panic; we’re called to stand. The armor of God still holds—truth, righteousness, faith, and the Word of God. When deception spreads, those anchored in Scripture will not be moved. We’re not waiting for new signs or new voices. We’re waiting for the One who already told us how this ends.

“Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13)

Truth will always outlast the lie.
