College board extends president’s contract for 2 more years

ROCK SPRINGS (WNE)  — Following an executive session, the Western Wyoming Community College Board of Trustees voted last Thursday to extend the contract of President Kirk Young by two years.

According to the agreement, Young’s time as Western’s president will extend to June 2029. He started in his position on July 1, 2024.

Young will continue at his current salary. However, the board noted he would be eligible for a salary increase if the Wyoming Legislature allows a raise for community college employees. During Thursday’s meeting, Young emphasized he did not ask for an increase during the negotiations.

His current contracted salary is $205,000 per year and includes a $1,500 monthly housing allowance and an $800 a month vehicle allowance.

Following the vote, Trustee Stephen Allen said Young continuing in his role as president for the extra two years creates a “good consistency and stability” for the college.
