Cody mayor pleads guilty to drunk driving

CODY (WNE) — Cody Mayor Lee Ann Reiter’s DUI case concluded Wednesday morning with a guilty plea.

As part of her sentencing agreement, Reiter agreed to a six-month, unsupervised probation, during which she will not be allowed to consume alcohol or patronize businesses whose primary source of income is derived from the sale of alcohol.  

However, Reiter will be allowed to be at events serving alcohol in her official capacity as Mayor.

In the event that she satisfies all conditions of her probation, Reiter will be eligible to have her DUI charge dismissed and guilty plea withdrawn after six months. She was eligible for the deferred prosecution on account of her never having been convicted of a felony and never receiving a deferred prosecution in the past.

“I understand the gravity of this situation and there have been many lessons learned,” Reiter said during her Monday hearing. “I understand the deferment and appreciate the judge, court and county attorney for granting me this opportunity to deliver on your expectations and look forward to moving productively forward.”

Reiter was additionally ordered to pay $270 in various court fees.

“I wish you luck. I know this was probably embarrassing for you in the position you’re in,” Park County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Darrah said. “But also when you’re in that position you have to be an example, you probably understand that, and maybe this can end up being a positive thing for people in the community.”
