Cody man missing, public asked for help

POWELL (WNE) — Authorities are asking members of the public to help them find a 50-year-old Cody man who went missing late Friday night.

Cody police say David M. Kelsey walked away from his home in the 2400 block of Central Avenue sometime between 11 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday. They consider Kelsey to be en- dangered, as he has both physical and mental health issues, including an autoimmune disease that has caused an off-gait walk.

Cody police put out a public call for help on Facebook on Saturday night while Park County Search and Rescue personnel spent two hours — from roughly 8:30-10:30 p.m. — conducting an “extensive search” along Central Avenue. 

However, Kelsey was not located.

Authorities then used their notification system to issue a Park County-wide community alert on Sunday morning, and police made another request for public help on Monday morning.

“Please review home security, doorbell, and trail camera footage,” the Cody department wrote on Facebook. “Check outbuildings, sheds, garages, basements, and other obscure or seldom-used areas on your property ... Look in places someone might seek shelter or rest.”

Though the initial search focused on Central Avenue, officers are now asking the community to help check the surrounding areas.

It was cold the night Kelsey went missing, with the recorded temperature in Cody ranging between minus 4 and minus 7 degrees around the time he left his home.

Kelsey wears glasses and he was last seen in a green jacket, jeans and red and black shoes.
