Clerk candidates wanted — Republicans begin search for clerk of district court candidates
The Weston County Republican Party is seeking candidates to fill the position of Weston County district court clerk after the resignation of Tina Cote on Dec. 31.
According to an email from Weston County Republican Party Chairwoman Kari Drost, the party finally received the official letter after it was initially sent to the incorrect address. Because of the short timeline outlined by law, Drost said the party has begun planning the required meetings.
“Per WY Statute 22-18-111, the County Clerk is required to notify the Chair of the County Party the official was registered with at the time of his election (in this case, the Republican Party). The Chair will then call a meeting of the county central committee within 15 days of notification,” Drost said in the email. “The county central committee will select 3 candidates and forward those three names to the Weston County Commissioners. The Weston County Commissioners will then have 5 days to choose one of the candidates selected by the WCRP to fill the vacancy.”
All interested parties who meet the requirements to fill the office should apply before Jan. 27, 2025, to Drost at karidrost72@yahoo.com or by calling 307-312-0768.
The Republican Party will hold its meeting on Jan. 27
at 6 p.m. at the Weston County Senior Center to select candidates.
To apply, Drost said, candidates must be qualified electors living in Wyoming.
As previously done, Drost is asking that candidates notify her before Jan. 27 so she can verify that they meet requirements and are registered Republicans.
To date, according to Drost, two applications have been received from current deputy district court clerk, Riki Kaiser, and Brookelyn De La Rosa who works for the Weston County Attorney’s Office.
When announcing her resignation, Cote indicated to the Board of Weston County Commissioners that she would like to see Kaiser get the position.
