Casper (WNE) — Casper City Council members on Tuesday passed a resolution supporting the land sale to the Bureau of Land Management.

The council discussed selling a plot of land near the Ford Wyoming Center to the BLM during its July 22 meeting. The sale is intended to expand the interpretive capabilities of the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.

During the meeting, council members removed 10.9 acres north of the Trails Center from the section being discussed, bringing the plot to nearly 50 acres.

The council heard about the proposed sale during a pre-meeting on June 17.

In 2023, it unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to sign a letter signaling the city’s interest in the sale of a nearly 60-acre lot. To finance the sale, the BLM applied for a $3 million grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

In 2024, the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center took suggestions from the public on how best to use the land.
