Bridger-Teton assumes control of Dollar Lake Fire

JACKSON (WNE) — The specialized incident management team fighting the Dollar Lake Fire has turned management over to the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

That comes after land managers in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem downgraded the fire danger from “very high” to “high,” and lifted some campfire restrictions on the Bridger-Teton and other public lands. That doesn’t, however, mean that western Wyoming and eastern Idaho are in the clear yet as far as fire season goes. Fire managers still worry about human-caused fires, like hunters’ warming fires, causing large wildfires in the area.

The Dollar Lake Fire started Aug. 21 near a popular camping destination north of Pinedale and west of Green River Lakes. It has grown to 19,467 acres.

The cause is still undetermined.

The Dollar Lake Fire is now 66% contained, though closures of the Moose/Gypsum Road and trails west of Green River Lakes are still in place.

Three specialized incident management teams have fought the fire since it started.

Wyoming Incident Management Team 4 is now handing over control.

“A presence of firefighters is expected in and around the fire area,” officials wrote in a Wednesday afternoon update, the last from the incident management teams. “Resource Advisors from the Bridger Teton are continuing their efforts to return the area to its pre-fire condition, working collaboratively with firefighters to protect the wild places that we all hold closely.”
