PUBLIC NOTICE

Section 106 Consultation – Bridge DYK Replacement Project

WYDOT Project Number: CN21012

Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT)

Β

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), in coordination with the Wyoming Division of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is conducting review under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act for the proposed Bridge DYK Replacement Project in Weston County, Wyoming.

A fire in 2020 caused significant structural damage to the bridge, rendering it impassable. The project involves the demolition of the historic Bridge DYK, which previously carried County Road 1A (CR1A/Old Highway 85) over Beaver Creek south of Newcastle, Wyoming, and the construction of a new threespan composite continuous steel girder bridge. Bridge DYK has been determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places due to its historical association with Wyoming’s early transportation system and as a surviving example of a Warren pony truss with verticals. Demolition of this bridge constitutes an adverse effect under Section 106 regulations.

WYDOT invites members of the public to provide comments, ask questions, or offer information relevant to the project’s potential impact on historic properties. Public input is an important component of the Section 106 process and will help inform the development of measures to resolve adverse effects.

Comments Due: Please submit comments within 15 days of this notice, no later than Thursday, April 23, 2026.
