CHEYENNE (WNE) — With strong winds forecasted for the region this weekend, Black Hills Energy crews are actively monitoring weather conditions and the electric grid to ensure safe and reliable service for customers.

The company is prepared to respond quickly should outages occur, according to a news release.

While the electric system is designed to withstand severe weather, high winds can create challenges. Black Hills Energy reminds customers to stay alert and take steps if the weather causes isolated service interruptions:

• Update your contact information so you can receive alerts and updates.
• Build an emergency kit with water, nonperishable food, flashlights, batteries and first aid supplies.
• Prepare your home and yard by securing outdoor items and check for hazards near power lines.
• Plan for medical needs, including backup options for refrigerated medications and medical devices that rely on electricity.
• Protect electronics with surge protectors and secure outdoor items to prevent hazards near power lines.
• Use generators safely — operate outdoors and away from windows, never indoors.
• Conserve battery power by using flashlights instead of candles and limiting phone use.
