Be an informed voter

Inside this newspaper, the News Letter Journal has compiled biographies and responses of the candidates who will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot. Statewide and federal  candidate responses were gathered and shared by our sister paper, the Buffalo Bulletin in Buffalo, for our readers. With the general election less than two weeks away, this special section provides voters with a wealth of information to help make informed decisions prior to heading to the polls.

It is important to be informed on issues that appear on the ballot, as well as to study the candidates’ stances on issues, because the decisions you make at the booth can have a direct impact on your life and others.

A controversial issue that has made headlines in this election cycle will be on the ballot as an initiative, and voters are being asked to vote for or against the measure. Proposed Initiative Proposition Number One, if passed by voters, is an act relating to taxation; establishing a homeowner’s exemption for primary residences (front page Oct. 15 NLJ story, “Tax Choice” by Mary Stroka). Groups on both sides of the initiative have presented their viewpoints; however, voters will ultimately get a chance to voice their opinion on the issue at the ballot booth.

By casting your vote in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, or by voting early, you are exercising your right to hold leaders accountable, supporting your local community and state, strengthening our democratic system of government and ensuring that the power belongs to the people.
