Applications open for winter heating assistance
The Wyoming Low Income Energy Assistance Program is accepting applications for the 2026-27 heating season. Residents must submit a new application each heating season.
The federally funded program, known as LIEAP, helps eligible households pay a portion of their monthly winter heating bills. Households approved for seasonal benefits may also qualify for a one-time additional benefit for heating emergencies, including past-due bills, utility deposits or a broken furnace.
Applications for seasonal and crisis assistance will be accepted through April 30, 2027. Residents can apply online at mylieapwyo.org or call 800-246-4221 for help applying by phone.
Local assistance is available at the Wyoming Department of Family Services office in Weston County, 22922 U.S. Highway 85, Suite 200. The office can be reached at 307-746-4657.
Applicants must be Wyoming residents with gross household income at or below 60% of the state’s median income. Monthly income limits include $2,988 for an individual, $3,908 for a couple and $5,747 for a family of four. Homeowners, renters and residents of permanently parked recreational vehicles or campers may apply.
Effective Oct. 1, households seeking crisis assistance must demonstrate a recent effort to pay their energy bills. To qualify, a household must have made at least one verifiable payment toward its primary utility, secondary utility or both within the previous 60 days. Households without a verifiable payment are ineligible for crisis assistance.
LIEAP is funded through a federal block grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and administered by the Wyoming Department of Family Services.
